# NARW Detector Tutorial

In this tutorial we will be training a deep neural network to detect upcalls made by the North Atlantic right whale (NARW). The data set that we will be working with consists of approximately 2000 short audio clips sampled at 1 kHz. Each clip is 3 seconds long. About half of the clips contain an upcall. These calls are characterized by an upsweep frequency from about 50 Hz to 350 Hz and a duration of about 1 second. The remaining clips do not contain upcalls, but could potentially contain other sounds in addition to the ever present ambient background.
